Leeds United’s January signings haven’t exactly panned out as they’d have hoped.
Jean-Kevin Augustin is the only winter arrival to have appeared for the Whites up to this point, and he’s only played 49 minutes.
You can excuse Elia Caprile not getting a game as he came in as the third-choice goalkeeper, but what remains a mystery is Ian Poveda’s lack of first-team action.
The young winger isn’t even making the bench these days, and that’s left us questioning why he was signed back in January.

The former Manchester City man’s contract was up in the summer, so why on earth did Leeds choose to take on his wages for six months before they needed to if they had no plans of playing him?
Now, we’re not writing Poveda off as a player, after all, you don’t get taken on by Barcelona, Arsenal and Man City if you don’t have any talent, but we have to wonder why on earth Victor Orta made this deal happen in winter rather than waiting until the winger’s contract was up in the summer.
Not only would it have saved United a bit of money, but it would have allowed Poveda six more months of training at Man City’s state of the art facilities rather than having to come over and work at Thorp Arch, a training ground that Leeds are looking to ditch quickly in order to move to a new site with more modern amenities.
The winger doesn’t look likely to make his first-team debut at Elland Road anytime soon, and with each passing day, we’re wondering why this transfer took place in January. He’s failed to play a single first-team minute since arriving.
Orta may want to be more patient when pursuing deals of this ilk in the future – Poveda’s start to life at the Yorkshire club has been quite an unhappy one so far.
In other news, there could be one huge casualty if Leeds go up this season.
