Cesc Fabregas is widely expected to leave Chelsea either in January or at the end of the season, and Everton should be in the hunt for his signature.
What’s the word, then?
Fabregas joined Chelsea from Barcelona in the summer of 2014, and helped the Blues win the Premier League title in two of his first three seasons at the club.
The midfielder is closing on 200 appearances for the Blues in all competitions, but his contract at Stamford Bridge expires at the end of the season.
A number of Italian clubs – including AC Milan – have been linked with the Spain international. Indeed, foreign clubs will be able to open contract talks with the midfielder at the start of 2019.
Everton should be closely monitoring developments, however, with Fabregas the type of player that the Toffees need if they are serious about becoming challengers for the top four over the next few seasons.
Could Everton actually sign him?
There is no question that Fabregas is frustrated at Chelsea, having not started a single Premier League game for the Blues this term.
It does seem likely that the Spaniard will move on either in January or at the end of the season, and Everton would have to fight hard to convince him to remain in England.
Having been around for so long, it is easy to forget that Fabregas is only 31 years of age, and will not be 32 until the latter stages of this season.
He is not a player that has ever relied on pace or power, and he could be just what Everton need in the middle of their midfield over the next couple of years.

Andre Gomes has been so successful since stepping into the Everton XI because he keeps the ball well, and the same can also be said for Fabregas.
The former Arsenal captain might well be tempted by a huge contract offer, and the opportunity to help Everton push for the Champions League positions.
